24 x 36 canvas with layers of stucco mixed in with feathers. The areas around the top have eggshells mixed in with the acrylic paint to give it a cracked texture. The glow in the dark paint was mixed in with the white paint that is shooting out from the eyes as a symbol of her ever present force of will. I currently have this hanging in my bedroom as my wife likes it too much to part with it.
"darkness rain" is about hope, in all the darkness she never gives in. She stands firm and fights back against the darkness as it rains down. It represents the power of will, to never back down, to create something from nothing. She screams out at the darkness and with a will so strong she creates light. The light shouts back at the darkness.
I have been sober for close to 9 years now and this is what I feel like I can make it for 9 more years. That will power can sustain me, that I can continue and not give in to my thirst. Sometimes I want to give in and then I think of her as my willpower shouting back at my addiction.
